HYOSUNG’s CREORA spandex, seatbelt yarn, and tire reinforcement materials share a common trait: they are all ranked No.1 globally. Additionally, the company has developed several 'world first' products such as high-performance carbon fiber, futuristic industrial material POKETONE, and a 100% hydrogen engine generator. Through these achievements, HYOSUNG has continuously set new standards in various fields, including textiles, advanced materials, and heavy industries, solidifying its status as a leading global company. At the core of this success lies relentless dedication and commitment to R&D.

HYOSUNG established the HYOSUNG Research Institute in 1971, the first private corporate research institute in Korea, and has since expanded its research domains by opening the Heavy Industry Research Institute, the Financial Automation Technology Research Institute, and the Wire Research Institute. In 2006, HYOSUNG consolidated its Central Research Institute and Production R&D Center to form HYOSUNG R&DB Labs. While the company's journey began with synthetic fibers, it has now evolved into an incubator of cutting-edge technologies, producing world-class products in various sectors such as heavy electrical equipment, energy, and IT.

Guided by the philosophy that "self-developed source materials are the foundation of innovative products and the key to creating competitive advantage," HYOSUNG has made significant strides in writing new chapters of its history. Today, we explore the traces of this effort in Hyosung’s world-leading products.

Hyosung TNC's Functional Spandex Brand ‘CREORA

Hyosung TNC’s ‘CREORA’ has long held the No.1 global market share for spandex, serving as a robust pillar of support for HYOSUNG. Combining functionality with sustainability, infused with HYOSUNG’s technological prowess, CREORA has captivated consumers worldwide.

The history of CREORA spandex dates back to 1990. At that time, the chemical fiber market was dominated by the United States and Japan. For HYOSUNG, entering the market as a latecomer, developing its own technology was crucial. After approximately three years of trial and error at the HYOSUNG Research Institute, the company successfully developed independent spandex technology in 1992. This achievement was a first for a Korean company and the fourth in the world, marking a significant milestone where Korean homegrown technology became a game-changer in the market.

CREORA spandex achieved industrialization in 1997, and from there, it steadily grew to become the global market leader. In 1999, the brand name ‘CREORA’ was established, and a factory was built in Gumi, Gyeongsangbuk-do. Throughout the 2000s, HYOSUNG expanded production capacity by establishing additional factories in China, India, Vietnam, and Brazil. With superior quality in color expression, durability, and elasticity compared to competitors, CREORA has maintained its position as the undisputed global leader since 2010.

However, HYOSUNG continues to pursue "Global Excellence," constantly exploring ways to enhance convenience in consumers’ daily lives while reducing carbon emissions. One such effort is the commercialization of bio-spandex made from natural raw materials extracted from corn. Additionally, HYOSUNG launched ‘regen,’ an eco-friendly fiber brand that uses recycled materials such as discarded plastic and fishing nets, as well as bio-based materials.

Meanwhile, to meet the ever-increasing global demand for spandex, HYOSUNG plans to expand its overseas factories by next February and enter new, high-potential markets such as Cambodia. Given the diverse applications of CREORA spandex—from clothing to diapers and surgical supplies—it won't be long before CREORA is ubiquitous worldwide.

Hyosung Advanced Materials: Polyester Tire Cord, Airbag Fabric, and Seatbelt Yarn

Hyosung Advanced Materials is renowned for its world-leading polyester tire cord, airbag fabric, and seatbelt yarn. Today, HYOSUNG stands as the largest producer of major tire reinforcements globally. This journey began in 1968 with the development of Korea’s first nylon tire cord, followed by the creation of polyester tire cords in 1978, and steel cords and bead wires in 1987, ensuring the company’s responsibility for all key materials affecting tire safety and durability. With a market share of approximately 50%, HYOSUBG’s polyester tire cords are used in about one out of every two cars worldwide.

Starting production of seatbelt yarns in 1987, HYOSUNG expanded its influence in the mobility industry by acquiring Global Safety Textiles (GST), the world’s largest airbag fabric manufacturer, in 2011. Known for their superior abrasion resistance, dyeability, and diverse product lineup, HYOSUNG’s products are highly favored by leading tire manufacturers. Additionally, HYOSUNG’s unique capability to simultaneously develop Nylon 66 and polyester airbag yarns has earned them excellent reviews in the industry.

Similar to CREORA Spandex, the overwhelming market dominance of Hyosung Advanced Materials' three key products stems from its unwavering commitment to research and development. By leveraging foundational technologies, Hyosung Advanced Materials has secured exceptional product capabilities, establishing itself as a company with unparalleled technical expertise. Most importantly, their steadfast dedication to materials directly impacting driver safety has earned solid trust from their clients.

Beyond product excellence, Hyosung Advanced Materials fulfills its role as a leading enterprise with strong social responsibility. The company has commercialized recycled polyester tire cords and developed bio-based polyester and lyocell tire cords derived from sources like corn and wood. Similarly, seatbelt yarns and airbag fabrics now utilize bio-based polyester yarns, ensuring sustainable practices throughout their manufacturing processes. Their plan to transition all polyester tire cords to such materials by 2050 underscores their commitment to a greener future. We hope you look forward to the bright future that Hyosung Advanced Materials will create.

Hyosung TNS ATM

Hyosung TNS's ATM business stands as a case study in achieving the global number one title through meticulous technology development and supply that faithfully reflects customer needs. HYOSUNG established its computer division within Dongyang Nylon in 1979, starting hardware production through a partnership with Hitachi in Japan. The expertise gained in the computer business then formed the foundation for its current ATM operations.

Following the debut of specialized financial terminals and Cash Dispensers (CDs) in 1981, Hyosung further integrated its capabilities in 2002 by merging Hyosung Computer and Hyosung Data System, a company where developed financial software, to establish Nautilus Hyosung, which later evolved into Hyosung TNS. At that time, Nautilus Hyosung demonstrated exceptional competitiveness in the ATM sector, securing the top market share in non-financial sectors in South Korea and the United States, and ranking fourth globally. In 2018, it rebranded as Hyosung TNS, a comprehensive financial solutions company, achieving the third-largest global market share in the ATM industry.

Hyosung TNS currently holds the top market share in South Korea, the United States, and Russia. Despite the declining trend in cash usage, achieving such results is credited to customer-centric technological innovation and tailored solutions. In 2017, promoting multi-currency ATMs in Russia following the issuance of new banknotes, and proposing combined deposit and withdrawal machines (recyclers) in the United States, contributed to soaring market share. Additionally, Hyosung TNS operated Service Operation Centers (SOC) nationwide in the US, addressing faults and errors around the clock, 365 days a year, prioritizing customer convenience.

Hyosung TNS leads in ATM production, supply, as well as offering cash management solutions (CMS) and branch transformation solutions (BTS), driving financial innovation. Adapting to the cashless and contactless era, they are dedicated to technology development and commercialization. The company currently supplies ATMs and kiosks capable of services like account opening beyond deposits and withdrawals, and even Bitcoin transactions. Plans include launching next-generation ATMs integrating convenience features such as parcel services, and purchasing tickets for flights and movies, as well as calling taxis. Recently, they previewed AI-powered unmanned payment solutions at the world's largest retail exhibition, NRF 2024, signaling a new vision.

HYOSUNG’s products, embraced worldwide, take responsibility for convenience and safety in our daily lives. All of this stems from HYOSUBG’s R&D philosophy, driven by a passionate commitment to original technology development. There's a saying that holding onto a throne is harder than seizing it. HYOSUNG will continue to innovate and evolve to maintain its fitting competitiveness as a global leader.
