HYOSUNG is focusing on developing hydrogen energy technology. The company has established the world's largest liquid hydrogen plant in Ulsan, laying a critical foundation for the commercialization of hydrogen energy. The plant is projected to achieve an annual production capacity of 39,000 tons within the next five years. Through these efforts, HYOSUNG plans to establish a hydrogen energy supply chain and provide hydrogen energy to various industries, including hydrogen vehicles and large commercial vehicles. Additionally, HYOSUNG is expanding its nationwide network of hydrogen refueling stations, with a particular focus on developing hybrid hydrogen refueling station technologies that utilize biogas. These stations are designed to efficiently supply hydrogen, supporting not only hydrogen vehicles but also large commercial vehicles and heavy machinery in their use of hydrogen energy.




Hyosung Heavy Industries provides sustainable power management solutions through its Energy Storage System (ESS) technology. ESS is developed based on power conversion and energy operation technologies, maximizing the efficiency of renewable energy production, storage, and management. It can be utilized for various applications, including frequency regulation of power grids, peak power management, microgrids, and renewable energy integration.


HYOSUNG’s ESS solutions feature a Modular Multi-Level Converter (MMC) integrated with high-efficiency power conversion technology, ensuring stable energy supply. The system effectively manages the variability of renewable energy sources like solar power and establishes independent power grids, enabling the construction of renewable energy-based microgrids in remote areas, such as islands, where power supply is challenging.

6. Addressing the Climate Crisis: Tackling Climate Challenges with Recycling and Smart Technologies

The company has set a goal to cut emissions by 23.6% by 2030 compared to 2018 levels, focusing on process improvements and energy efficiency.


HYOSUNG's Bio BDO technology represents a breakthrough in sustainable material production. By fermenting sugarcane-derived sugar, this process eliminates the need for fossil-based raw materials. The new Bà Rịa–Vũng Tàu plant in Vietnam will initially produce 50,000 tons annually from 2026, with plans to quadruple capacity. This bio-based material serves multiple industries, from spandex fiber to biodegradable packaging, positioning HYOSUNG as a leader in the sustainable materials market. 


This Bio BDO is applied across various industrial sectors, including the production of PTMG (Poly Tetramethylene Ether Glycol) for spandex fiber manufacturing, as well as biodegradable packaging materials, shoe soles, and industrial compounds. Through the production of Bio BDO, HYOSUNG is enhancing its competitiveness in the global sustainable materials market and leading the development of sustainable textile and chemical products.

HYOSUNG is also preparing for physical risks caused by climate change, reinforcing facilities and conducting safety inspections to address extreme weather events such as typhoons and floods.
