As the eighth segment of Hyosung’s special serial program on culture, Oh Eun-young’s talk concert titled “Going Together” was held at Art Hall Mac, Mapo Art Center, Seoul on February 3 with 800-plus people in attendance.
The concert, which was held with Hyosung’s sponsorship, contained the suggestion to build a world where the non-disabled blend in with the disabled under the theme of “Going Together.” In her talk concert, Dr. Oh Eun-young provided professional solutions to the problems experienced by parents of disabled young people, and the audience gave her a big round of applause. The program was carried out in such a way that Dr. Oh provided solutions directly to the problems submitted by those attending it. The problems submitted included difficulties experienced due to the way people look at the disabled and how to get on with life by overcoming such difficulties, etc.
Noteworthy was Gaon Soloists, a chamber music group including disabled people, which played pieces like The Wizard of Oz (OST), Over the Rainbow, etc. for the audience. LEE Sangu, a singer who has a disabled son, appeared on the show and talked about what he has experienced as a parent of a disabled person. Cosmos and Me, a group of singers where his son Seunghun is a trumpet player, also performed nice music.
The audience showed an enthusiastic response to the song Goose's Dream sung together by Dr. Oh Eun, LEE Sangu, and Gaon Soloists. Proceeds from the show will be spent on activities carried out by disabled performers.
“I sincerely hope that programs like this talk concert will go a long way in encouraging members of society to pay more attention to the disabled,” Oh Eun-young said.
For his part, Mr. CHO Hyun-sang, Head of Hyosung Social Work Volunteers who also serves as Vice Chair of Hyosung, expressed hope that the concert held this time serves as an occasion where people get to reconsider their prejudice about the disabled to build a more engaging and mature society. “We at Hyosung will continue to provide support for culture/art activities designed to present a grander vision to people and help them have easier access to such programs,” he added.
Hyosung has engaged in social contribution activities with focus on support for less-privileged people, support for culture/arts, and support for war veterans under the slogan Hyosung Social Work Volunteers. The group has maintained the status of a Leading Institution of Support for Culture/Arts for nine years in a row through its activities such as support for the Onnuri Sarang Chamber Orchestra, which is an orchestra composed of disabled young people, and the Seoul Arts Creation Center for the Disabled.
