Hyosung Heavy Industries Surpasses 10 Trillion Won in Cumulative Production of Extra-High Voltage Transformers

On the 7th, Hyosung Heavy Industries’ Changwon plant surpassed 10 trillion won in cumulative production of extra-high voltage transformers. Surpassing 10 trillion won in production for both extra-high voltage transformers and circuit breakers is the only case in Korea, achieved by the Changwon plant.

Since developing Korea’s first 154kV extra-high voltage transformer in 1969, Hyosung Heavy Industries surpassed 1 trillion won in cumulative transformer production in 2002, 5 trillion won in 2014, and reached 10 trillion won in January of this year.

Demonstrating Competitiveness in Global Power Markets through Proprietary Technology

Over the past 50 years, Hyosung Heavy Industries has played a central role in the domestic power industry based on proprietary technology. Following the 154kV and 345kV extra-high voltage transformers, the company independently developed the 765kV extra-high voltage transformer in 1992—the sixth in the world and the first in Korea—leading the localization of extra-high voltage power equipment.

In addition, the company successfully developed a 400kV eco-friendly insulating oil transformer in 2022 and is currently advancing the development of a 500kV HVDC converter transformer to supply the government’s “Energy Expressway” project, based on proprietary voltage-source HVDC technology.

Leveraging its proprietary technology, Hyosung Heavy Industries currently supplies customized products to more than 70 countries worldwide. In the U.S., it has maintained the top market share for 765kV transformers since the early 2010s, and in European transmission markets with high technical entry barriers—including the U.K. and Norway—it holds the top market share for 400kV transformers, demonstrating its competitiveness.

With global order expansion, the Changwon plant has maintained annual orders exceeding 1 trillion won for extra-high voltage transformers for three consecutive years since 2023.
