Hyosung Undertakes the Restoration of Endangered Insects

2025.04.22

Hyosung is undertaking an ecosystem restoration activity through the artificial propagation of endangered insects.

On the 21st, Hyosung Group signed a business agreement (MOU) for ‘Endangered Insect Restoration and Biodiversity Promotion’ with the National Institute of Ecology and TFIF Korea Co. Ltd. Major affiliates that participated in the agreement included Hyosung Corporation, Hyosung TNC Co., Ltd., Hyosung Heavy Industries Co., Ltd., and Hyosung Chemical Co., Ltd.

Hyosung has committed to provide support funds for propagating and restoring endangered insects such as jewel beetles, dung beetles, and giant water bugs until 2027. The National Institute of Ecology will transfer ecosystem restoration know-how including artificial propagation of dung beetles, and TFIF Korea Co., Ltd., an insect specialist company, will utilize this to restore endangered insects in their habitat. Hyosung’s fund will be used to build a growth system for artificial propagation and purchase feed.

Hyosung will also engage in the release of artificially propagated insects into the wild. In June, a jewel beetle release event will be held at the Pyochungsa Temple site in Miryang, Gyeongnam, where employees will participate in ecological restoration activities.

Hyosung CEO Hwang Yoon-eon said, “We have been carrying out various species conservation activities such as creating a seagrass bed to preserve the marine ecosystem and providing migratory bird feed to protect endangered birds,” and added, “With this insect restoration agreement, we will seize the opportunity to further bolster ecological conservation activities covering land, sea, and sky.”

Meanwhile, Hyosung also supported facilities for artificial breeding of jewel beetles and giant water bugs to TFIF Korea Co., Ltd. in 2024.
