Hyosung, debut of world’s first commercialized ‘polyketone’ in the Global market
Hyosung announced on 21st that the company would participate the Asia’s largest and one of world’s three plastic industrial exhibitions, ‘Chinaplas 2015’ to be held for 4 days from 20th to 23rd to introduce the environment-friendly new material ‘polyketone’ commercialized for the first time in the world to the Global market.
CMO of Chemical PG and Vice President of Strategic Headquarters Cho Hyun-sang said, “I am so happy to make full-scale marketing of polyketone, next generation material with better durability and chemical resistance than the previous engineering plastic,” and “We will continue to publicize to the whole world the excellence of our polyketone which will be used as materials of various products and make it as a new paradigm of the Global engineering plastic market.”
‘Chinaplas’ is the Asia’s largest plastic industry exhibition recording its 29th event this year and considered as one of world top 3 plastic exhibitions together with Germany’s K-Fair and US NPE. This year, about 3,200 companies will participate in and more than 120 thousand people are anticipated to visit the exhibition, and so this will be the best opportunity for Hyosung to secure new customers for the world’s first commercial environment-friendly new material ‘polyketone’.
In this exhibition, Hyosung will make active PR of creation of new material polyketone to the world plastic market and promote marketing for the basis expansion of polyketone market. Also, the company will strengthen the strategic partnership with the previous customers and make new trade partners to develop markets.
Hyosung received the WPM (World Premier Materials) program support from Ministry of Industry, Trade & Energy and made a success in polyketone commercialization for the first time in the world based on its own technology. Polyketone is receiving attention as an environment-friendly macromolecular new material. Its environment-friendliness comes from that it is made from olefin and carbon monoxide which is the main cause for air pollution. As it has at least 2.3 times higher impact strength and 30% better chemical resistance than nylon, and at least 14 times better abrasion resistance than POM, it is considered to give better chemical properties than any new material developed so far.
Hyosung constructed a 1,000 ton production per year pilot facility in Ulsan in the past 2012 and is producing polyketone while constructing a commercial polyketone plant in the 50 thousand ton scale yearly production.
