HYOSUNG said on November 29 that, jointly with Good Neighbors, an NGO specializing in children’s right, it held a ceremony for the opening of Girls’ Room, a facility for hygiene management of female students, at G.S. Joma School in Mukiza, Rwanda.
Said facility is a space for providing hygienic goods and pain-killers, etc. and is expected to help female students come to school during their menstrual periods without interruption.
Many female students in remote areas in Rwanda were reported to have difficulty due to the lack of menstruation-related knowledge, facilities, and supplies. Such situation renders female students unable to come to school during their periods.
Upon hearing such situation, HYOSUNG decided to provide support to help improve the situation including the construction of said facility. In addition, the Company decided to engage in activities designed to enhance the local students’ level of awareness of health/hygiene including women’s menstruation.
This year, HYOSUNG plans to complete the work for Girls’ Room in three more schools in said area of Rwanda. HYOSUNG has carried out such activities for a total of 11 schools in the country over the past three years.
In addition, HYOSUNG engages in an array of social contribution activities in foreign countries under the slogan of “We will share others’ difficulties,” including the dispatch of Miso Wonjeongdae (Smile Team), a team of volunteers for medical services overseas, and the construction of kindergartens in mountainous areas in Vietnam.
