Hyosung Sponsors Monument Commemorating 100th Anniversary of June 10 Independence Movement

Hyosung announced on the 10th that it sponsored the construction of a monument commemorating the 100th anniversary of the June 10 Independence Movement, in which late founder and Chairman Cho Hong-je (Manwoo Cho) participated.

On this day, the unveiling ceremony for the monument commemorating the 100th anniversary of the June 10 Independence Movement was jointly hosted by the June 10 Independence Movement Commemoration Committee and Cheondogyo in the courtyard of Cheondogyo Central Temple in Jongno-gu, Seoul. The commemorative monument embodies the spirit of permanently honoring the meaning of the June 10 Independence Movement and inheriting the spirit of the independence movement.

Hyosung participated in the construction of the monument to raise awareness of the historical value of the June 10 Independence Movement and to honor the patriotic and national devotion of its founder, Chairman Cho Hong-je, who was at the forefront of the independence movement.

As a major anti-Japanese independence movement led by students, the June 10 Independence Movement took place in connection with the funeral of Emperor Sunjong on June 10, 1926. At the time, students of Choongang High School and Joongdong High School led the protests, which later served as a catalyst for the nationwide expansion of student and independence movements.

Chairman Cho Hong-je was at the forefront of the anti-Japanese movement—participating in the June 10 Independence Movement while attending Choongang High School—and was later arrested and imprisoned by Japanese authorities. He later founded Hyosung based on such patriotic spirit and the management philosophy of industrial patriotism, and contributed to the growth of key national industries including textiles, chemicals, and heavy industries.

Hyosung continues to carry out various activities for honoring patriots and veterans such as invitation events for persons of national merit and their families, cleanup activities for burial grounds at Seoul National Cemetery, support for descendants of independence patriots, and projects for improving the residential environment of war veterans, expressing its gratitude and respect for those who devoted their lives to the nation.sp
