Hyosung donated \210 million on March 22 for Japanese earthquake relief efforts, ¥10 million (about \140 million) of which was paid by the company and \70 million of which was raised by the employees. The ¥10 million was donated through Hyosung Japan to the Japanese Red Cross and the \70 million raised by the employees were given to the international NGO Good Neighbors group. The employee fundraising efforts came after one Hyosung member posted a message on the intranet board that read, “Our next door neighbor Japan is suffering a lot of pain and we should do something about it”. In an effort to help the Japanese people in times of tragedy, Hyosung’s HQ and other locations in Korea, as well as Hyosung’s international locations like China, the U.S., Brazil, Turkey, Vietnam and Luxemburg, were united as a family. The people that saw the dire situation on the news but did not know of a feasible way to help eventually followed with their own fundraising initiatives and over 2,000 people made donations in the first two days alone. Employees with family or friends in Japan also contributed to the fundraising.
