Through a public notice released on this day, Hyosung Heavy Industries announced that it signed a contract designed to improve Ethiopia′s power supply network in the country′s southwestern areas on Sept. 6.

The contract signed by Hyosung Heavy Industries with the Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation (EEPCo) is worth a total of KRW 235.7 billion. Under the contract, Hyosung Heavy Industries will expand existing facilities or build new facilities, including five units of AISs  and GISs  ranging from 132kV to 400kV, and install 420km-long transmission lines in the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples′ Region (abbreviated as SNNPR) of Ethiopia. The project is carried out with funding support from the Export–Import Bank of Korea′s Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF), with the work to be completed by the end of 2025. According to industry analysts, the supply of GISs to Ethiopia′s nationwide power supply network, the first endeavor of its kind in the country, will result in the expansion of GIS markets in Africa.

Commenting on the matter, an EEPCo official said, ″The work designed to improve the power supply network in the country′s southwestern region will lead to economic development and improvement of the quality of life on behalf of local residents.″

Hyosung Heavy Industries is a leader in the power industry of Korea. In 2015, it became first company in South Korea to develop a 154kV-class asset management system algorithm and is expanding its business domain leveraging well-established cooperation with diverse solution businesses in the country. Recently, it formed an MOU for a power facility integration solution with KEPCO.
