Hyosung Heavy Industries Announces New Brand Identity

Through the announcement of a new brand identity, all members of Hyosung Heavy Industries are embarking on a serious approach with a fresh perspective on the identity of Hyosung Heavy Industries. Change starts with the questions, "Who am I?" and "Where am I now?" It is the same for the company and its members. The innovation and transformation of Hyosung Heavy Industries, which celebrates its 64th anniversary this year, begins with an earnest reflection on the company's identity. 


The ever-present but unrecognized value of Hyosung Heavy Industries  


Starting in 1962 as Hanyoung Industrial Co., Ltd., Hyosung Heavy Industries successfully developed Korea's first 154kV ultra-high voltage transformer in 1969 with its own technology and led the domestic transmission and substation equipment industry in the 1980s with ultra-high voltage transformers, circuit breakers, and electrical components as its main products, driving the modern industry where electricity is essential and growing together with South Korea. In the 1990s, the company successively developed 765kV ultra-high voltage transformers and 800kV GIS (gas-insulated switchgear), and also developed the country's first 362kV 50kA GIS, catching up with global competitors. 


Since 2012, a HYOSUNG-wise sustainability report has been published to disclose activities related to mutual growth to society and make efforts to realize sustainable management. In 2020, the company actively participated in the creation of the liquefied hydrogen industry ecosystem by establishing the country's first liquefied hydrogen charging station in Samcheok, Gangwon-do. As a result of these efforts, Hyosung Heavy Industries received the Carbon Management Sector Honors from the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) in February 2023. 


Hyosung Heavy Industries, a leading infrastructure company in South Korea that plays a crucial role in the power and renewable energy sectors, is embarking on a journey to build a new brand identity amid concerns about its identity, stemming from the practical issue of relatively low B2C awareness. It's almost certain that there are few people who have never heard of Hyosung Heavy Industries. However, when asked, "Do you know what Hyosung Heavy Industries does?" only a few might easily answer. While Hyosung Heavy Industries' B2B recognition and awareness in related fields is exceptionally high due to its business focus on key national industries, its B2C recognition among the general public is not as prominent. 


A new brand with strength, vision and innovation: VIS 


In response to this situation, Hyosung Heavy Industries has established a new brand identity to enhance external recognition and strengthen identity among its internal members. The new brand name, 'VIS', concisely represents the present and future of Hyosung Heavy Industries.

‘VIS' is derived from the Latin word meaning 'strength' or 'power'. This reflects Hyosung Heavy Industries' fundamental role in generating and transmitting the "power" that drives the nation and society. Hyosung Heavy Industries has built essential infrastructure and become the driving force of industrial development through its work in power generation equipment such as industrial machinery, engines, generators, as well as civil engineering and system solutions. ‘VIS’ symbolizes the core strength of Hyosung Heavy Industries, which has been a key force in South Korea's industrial development with its robust technology. 


In addition, "VIS" serves as an abbreviation for ‘Vision’. Now more than ever, Hyosung Heavy Industries’ ability to take a broader view and imagine the future is critical. The current industrial era is characterized by rapid and diverse changes, with industries merging and diverging based on people's lifestyles, economic values, and market directions. ‘VIS (Vision)’ represents Hyosung Heavy Industries' attention to the needs and trends of today's public and its imaginative approach to responding to future changes. 


'VIS' also means 'Visionary’. ‘Visionary,’ which is one of Hyosung Heavy Industries' four core values of "Dedicated∙Flexible∙Trustworthy∙Visionary," shows the direction Hyosung Heavy Industries is to take in the future. Based on the quality and technological prowess accumulated over a long period of time, having a vision that accurately understands the current and future trends, and continuously maintaining global competitiveness by introducing innovative products and solutions is precisely the future-oriented point for Hyosung Heavy Industries. 


Hyosung Heavy Industries intends to spread the brand message widely by incorporating ‘VIS’ into the brand names of each business. The Power PU (Performance Unit) family brand and the Electrical PU family brand, which represent strength, are named ‘POWERVIS’, while the Solution family brand, which creates a better life as a leader in total energy solutions, is named ‘SOLUVIS.’  


Also, the brand that creates sustainable value for heavy industry with humanity and the future in mind is named ‘GREENVIS,’ bringing the company one step closer to public through brand names that intuitively showcase the new brand identity. 


Furthermore, in selecting the brand colors for 'VIS', it has been intended to evoke the primary values pursued by each business sector. The representative color for Power PU is blue, symbolizing safety∙stability∙trust. Red has been selected for Electrical PU, representing vitality∙passion∙dynamism. A color for Solutions is mint, embodying innovation∙freshness. Lastly, for Eco-friendly, green, a color connected to environment ∙ sustainability ∙environmental friendliness, has been chosen.  


Along with these changes, Hyosung Heavy Industries plans to announce the renewal externally through HYOSUNG and Hyosung Heavy Industries' owned media platforms and SNS, as well as through the media, including the press.

Hyosung Heavy Industries has always been with the public, but its presence has been taken for granted to the point that it has not been recognized. Now is the time to let more people know of Hyosung Heavy Industries' quality-based technical capabilities, which operate out of sight in every corner of society, providing the same ordinary in everyone's daily lives. Through the establishment of Hyosung Heavy Industries' new brand identity, the hope is to have more people know, encounter, and enjoy what Hyosung Heavy Industries has to offer.
