Hyosung, will make a memorial park for the DMZ wounded soldiers

    Hyosung will sponsor forming a memorial park to recall military service of the reconnaissance battalion soldiers of the First Corps including Sergeant Kim Jeong-won and Sergeant Ha Jaeheon who were wounded by North Korea’s mine burying provocation at the Paju DMZ in the past early August.

    In the morning of 9th, Hyosung signed the MOU on the combat hero memorial program at the First Corps of Army located in Paju-shi, Gyeonggi-do, with Vice Chairman Lee Sang-woon and the commander

    In the signing ceremony of this day, Hyosung promised to donate 200 million Won as an expense for forming the memorial park which will reproduce the scene of the soldiers participating the DMZ reconnaissance operation. The First Corps has a plan to prepare a separate space within the Paju Unification Park in Paju, Gyeonggi-do for the memorial program and install the sculpture showing the appearance of DMZ reconnaissance operation and the guide board explaining the heroic action of the soldiers.

    The memorial park to be formed will realistically reproduce the reconnaissance scene by a total of 8 reconnaissance battalion soldiers within DMZ. At the time of mine explosion, the soldiers kept composure and showed definite will to combat in the mindset to punish fully North Korea for their provocation. Under the dangerous circumstance of possible additional explosion, the reconnaissance battalion soldiers exhibited strong comradeship evacuating the wounded soldiers to a safe place, which moved nation.

    Delivering deep consolation to the soldiers who were wounded by this sad incident, Hyosung’s Vice Chairman Lee Sang-woon said, “This combat hero memorial program is a very meaningful program not only to recall the military service of those wounded but also to continue the elevated social will of memorial, and we hope this will be a good case that the military and a civil company join their forces to build a ground for Unification.”

    In the meantime, Hyosung has been under the 1 Company-1 Barrack sponsorship agreement with the First Corps since 2010, and has sponsored the Patriots Home program supporting renovation of old houses for Korean War veterans for 4 years. Also, since 2014, Hyosung has been under the 1 Company-1 Cemetery Caring Agreement with not only Seoul National Cemetery but also Daejon National Cemetery and Yeongcheon National Cemetery and has been doing various memorial activities with all the employees involved.
