Hyosung, had the starting ceremony and workshop of ‘Blue Challengers’, Hyosung’s college students global volunteer corps

    Hyosung’s college students global volunteer corps, ‘Hyosung Blue Challengers’ started the 2 night and 3 day workshop on August 3rd at the Hyosung’s Anyang Training Center and entered into the full-scale preparation for giving a helping hand to overseas using appropriate technology.

    The 21 Hyosung Blue Challengers (20 members of the Appropriate Technology Volunteer Corps, 1 member of the Reporter Volunteer Corps) who were finalized through the announcement of the past June 5th had the ‘2015 Hyosung Blue Challengers’ starting ceremony at 10 am of August 3rd with Mr. Hong Seong-wook, representative of the Appropriate Technology Future Forum, and the working group of the international NGO, Food for the Hungry attended, and started the appropriate technology workshop.

    Hyosung Blue Challengers engaged in a skirmish for voluntary service in Vietnam including appropriate technology education and competitive exhibition of ideas, preparation for educational service and cultural exchange, and investigation of Vietnamese environment for 3 days of workshop.

    Appropriate technology refers to technologies that are developed with the social, cultural and environmental conditions of the community using the technology taken into consideration so that sustaining production and consumption may be possible in the corresponding region, and the 1st term Blue Challengers in 2011 developed the smokeless ‘Blue Stove’ and the rainwater purifier ‘IRED’ and distributed those to Vietnam and Cambodia.

    Leader of the Hyosung Sharing Volunteer Corps (Vice President) Cho Hyun-sang, who leads Hyosung’s sharing and volunteer activities said, “The Hyosung Blue Challenger activity is a meaningful activity helping local community’s self-reliance by adding Hyosung’s technology and knowhow to college students’ talent and specialty knowledge and supplying the appropriate technology products to foreign regions which need help,” and, “Hyosung will give supports in diverse ways to provide such an environment in which domestic and overseas local communities can stand on their own feet and grow together with the Company.”

    After finishing the workshop, Hyosung Blue Challengers will do distribution of Blue Stoves and the usage education, field research through visiting families, educational voluntary service and cultural exchange activity in NGUYEN BINH, Cao Bang Province, Vietnam for 7 days from August 23rd to 29th. After that, they will progress development appropriate technology products on the basis of the voluntary service there, and the product selected as the best appropriate technology will be distributed in January of the next year.
