Hyosung announced on the 18th that the company invited members of the ‘Onnuri Love Chamber’ orchestra, which is composed of about 80 disabled children and youths, for the teaching class in which they received performance teaching from the members of Silk Road Ensemble led by the world top cellist Yo-Yo Ma and also watched the performance of Silk Road Ensemble at the Seoul Arts Center located at Seocho-gu, Seoul.

This teaching class was planned such that members of the ‘Yo-Yo Ma and Silk Road Ensemble’ would become one-day mentors for members of the ‘Onnuri Love Chamber’ orchestra and give support for them to be able to grow to the next generation performers without losing their dream even in difficult situations.

This music class was the 4th after the one in 2010, 2012 and 2014 held as a part of Culture Series by Hyosung the official global sponsor of ‘Yo-Yo Ma and Silk Road Ensemble’.

The ‘Yo-Yo Ma Teaching Class’ began at the time of Financial Crisis in 2009 by the suggestion of Head of Industrial Materials PG then, Cho Hyun-sang (Vice President). When the teaching class was suggested by Vice President Cho, who had led Hyosung's social contribution activities as director of the Hyosung Sharing Volunteer Corps, for self-reliance of the vulnerable social group through culture and arts, Yo-Yo Ma who had been in long relationship accepted it willingly and has given the class in each performance.

The ‘Onnuri Love Chamber’ orchestra founded in 1999 is comprised of about 80 intellectually disabled children and youths. Since 2014, Hyosung has continuously supported the orchestra for the members' scholarship, purchase of instruments, concerts and music camp operation, and 30 specialized musicians participate in teaching as a form of talent donating volunteers and the orchestra is doing more than 50 tour concerts a year.

Yo-Yo Ma who taught the disabled children and youths with a bright face said, “I have a surprising experience at every concert in Korea. At this time, too, I am pleased to have a chance to teach them as a mentor not only how to play but also the attitude of a musician.”

Vice President Cho who attended each teaching class said, “It was very rewarding to see the children who seldom smiled being happy at such precious hours. Hyosung will try harder to make occasions for the neglected class to enjoy various cultures through diverse mecenat activities”.

Together with the ‘Yo-Yo Ma and Silk Road Ensemble’, Hyosung gave the teaching class for the Busan ‘Boys House’ orchestra in 2010 and then in 2012 for the members of the ‘Sejong Dream Tree’ orchestra composed of students from multi-cultural families and, this year, again for the members of the ‘Onnuri Love Chamber’ orchestra following 2014.
