2016.11.09

Hyosung attended the Book Cafe opening ceremony held on the 8th at the First Artillery Brigade of Gwanggaeto Troop, Army First Corps. Hyosung made the sisterhood agreement with Gwanggaeto Troop in 2010 for mutual development and delivers donation money and goods every year for development of military troops.

Hyosung joined the ‘Reading Barracks Movement’ campaigned by the Army Headquarters and delivered donation money in June this year for installing book cafes. Using this donated money, Gwanggaeto Troop opened a Book Cafe at the First Artillery Brigade and will open the 2nd Book Cafe at the end of this month at the Hwang Joong-hae Picket of the First Division.

The book cafe donated by Hyosung is a container type of 3 m width and 9 m length. It can accommodate more than a thousand books and has such a space that 12 persons can use at the same time. It is also equipped with a cooler and heater so that the soldiers who serve under relatively inferior environments, such as guard pickets at the front line, can nurture knowledge and emotions under a comfortable environment.

Hyosung anticipates that Book Cafe sponsoring will help soldiers' smooth return to society after discharge as well as their self-improvement during service. According to a survey conducted to soldiers of the 20 troops that improved barrack libraries and installed book cafes, the majority replied positively to the question asking if reading was helpful for leisure activity. Also, the average monthly reading of soldiers increased substantially by more than 3 times.

On the other hand, Hyosung delivered the ‘Rice of Love’ on the 1st to the neighbors of Mapo-gu where the Hyosung Head Office is located, and will hold the ‘Blood Donation of Love’ event on the 10th for the leukemia and childhood cancer patients. Also, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of foundation, Hyosung appointed the period from October 17th to November 25th as the ‘Sharing Service Period’ and did active social contribution activities.
