Hyosung, recruitment of college overseas service corps, ‘Hyosung Blue Challengers’

2015.05.01

Hyosung started recruiting college global volunteer corps, ‘Hyosung Blue Challengers’ who will serve sharing activity using appropriate technology. College students who will be finally selected as Hyosung Blue Challengers will serve various global sharing activities in Vietnam, such as development of appropriate technologies optimized for Vietnam or product supplying, from June to February of the next year.

Appropriate technology refers to such technologies as can easily be used without additional energy consumption to improve life by residents of underdeveloped or developing countries which lack such basic facilities as electricity or tap water. Representative cases of appropriate technology include Life Straw by which contaminated water can be purified for drinking or Q-Drum with which even children can easily move much water. Activity of Hyosung Blue Challengers will be to help local residents practically stand on their own feet by sharing through distribution of these appropriate technologies.

The finally chosen Hyosung Blue Challengers will do sharing activity in the coming July with an international relief organization, Food for the Hungry, in the Cao Bang Province located at the northeast of Vietnam. Cao Bang Province is a region of so high illiteracy and extremely small educational and cultural benefit in Vietnam that aid is quite necessary.

Leader of the Hyosung Sharing Volunteer Corps (Vice President), Cho Hyun-sang, who leads Hyosung’s sharing and volunteer activity said, “Hyosung does not limit itself to domestic social contributions but strives in regional sharing in overseas workplaces to fulfill the duty of a global citizen,” and “Blue Challengers will be a good opportunity that our college students can use their talents and specialties to do overseas sharing activity.”

On the other hand, in every summer since 2011, Hyosung visits Dong Nai Province of Vietnam where Hyosung’s core businesses, spandex plant and tire cord plant, are located, to give free medical service to the alienated groups from medical benefits, and Blue Challengers 1st term activity was performed in the past 2011 in Vietnam and Cambodia

Those college students who want to challenge for Hyosung Blue Challengers may visit Hyosung blog ‘My Friend Hyosung (http://blog.hyosung.com)’ to download the application form, and send the application form through e-mail.

Documents are received from April 30th to May 16th, and the 2nd process of interview will be limited to those who pass document examination. A total of 22 students are recruited, 20 for the Appropriate Technology Volunteer Group and 2 for Reporter Volunteer Group (photo and video filming)
