Hyosung's GIS wins NEP certification at Korea Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS)

2007.07.23

The 24kV 3000A 40kA GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear) developed by Power & Industrial Systems R & D Center with the application of the technology of multi-layered embossing (the first of its kind developed in Korea) won the New Excellent Product (NEP) certification from the KATS of the Industrial Ministry.

Hyosung is applying for patent rights for the core technology of the GIS. The certification of the Circuit Breaker will serve as another occasion to display the company's advanced technology.

The 24kV 3000A 40kA GIS is used for 154kV power transmission facilities. It is a gas-insulated version, the first of its kind developed in Korea, of MCSG (Metal Clad Switchgear). Previously, MCSGs were difficult to transport and install due to their large size associated with the required distance between parts for insulation performance. The gas-insulated version reduced the measurement by 86 percent. This made it possible to put switching devices, such as switchgear, disconnecting switch and earthing disconnecting switch, into an SF6 airtight gas container, thus eliminating the possibility of an accident caused by humidity or foreign materials.

Also, the application of the technology of multi-layered embossing to the moving contact of a disconnecting switch makes it possible to 40kA large continuous current in short time, the first of its kind developed in Korea. The Power & Industrial Systems R & D Center also became the world's first business to solve the problem of the rise in temperature associated with the flow of large current (3000A).
