Vice President Cho Hyun-sang, based at the Corporate Strategy Center, has been selected as one of Young Global Leaders, as announced at the World Economic Forum on January 16th.
The World Economic Forum selects Young Global Leaders from among professionals who are working in politics, academia, journalism, and social sectors, through a panel of judges. The panel consists of renowned experts in various fields, and takes into account professional achievements, contributions to society, and potential for contribution to the world in the future, when considering candidates for the list.
The WEF selected 250 people among 4,000 candidates this year. Koreans who made the list include Vice President Cho Hyun-sang, striker Park Ji-sung at the Manchester United football club in Britain, and CSO Lee Hae-jin of the web portal NHN.
Cho was in the spotlight in September last year when he played a key role in the signing of a $3.2 billion-contract with Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company of the United States to take over Goodyear's four plants and for the supply of products, the biggest ever deal in the history of the tire cord industry.
Vice President Cho also made the list of the next generation leaders selected by the Asia Society, a prominent club in the United States, last year. In this regard, he introduced former President Kim Dae-jung who delivered a speech as Korea's representative. The former President spoke to VIPs from various countries at the society's annual summit, which was held at Silla Hotel in Seoul, during November of last year.
