- Lays foundation for co-prosperity with beverage producers by introducing first of its kind facilities
Hyosung will construct germ-free filling facilities for PET bottles for the first time in Korea, and start bottling of well-being PET products, including green tea and tea mixtures. The Company invested 75 billion won in Gwanghyewon, North Chungcheong Province, to install an aseptic filling system, and signed a memorandum of understanding with the provincial government on February 22nd.
The new production plant will be constructed at a 1560 sq. meter- property in the existing PET bottling plant in Gwanghyewon. It will have the capacity to process 315 million bottles per year in the first year, and start full production in August. Hyosung plans to complete the expansion of the facilities in the second phase, in order to increase production capacity to 630 million bottles per year by 2009.
The facilities to be introduced this year are machines bottling PET bottles in a germ-free condition. Because the facilities retain low acidity, they prevent corruption or spoiling of beverages as they enhance safety. In addition, since beverages are not filled in high temperature unlike common drinks, the flavors are better preserved. Another advantage is the fact that the beverages can be contained in bottles of diverse forms.
Kim Jong-kwang, head of the Chemical PG, said "Now that Hyosung is to be equipped with germ-free bottling facilities, the financial burdens of investment required for such facilities will be eased for beverage producers in Korea" adding that "The facilities will significantly increase the introduction of more well-being drinks, including various tea mixtures that have gained huge popularity recently, thus paving the way for co-prosperity between beverage producers and PET bottle makers.
