- In memory of achievements and spirit of late chairman who devoted to development of Korean economy and education
A ceremony was held to mark the centennial of the birth of the late Chairman Manwoo Cho Hong-jai on June 15th. The ceremony was held to commemorate his birth 100 years ago, and to pay respect to the achievements and the spirit of the late chairman who made important contributions to the development of the Korean economy and the education of children. The ceremony also included an awards ceremony for an entrepreneurship award, which is presented by the Korean Academy of Business Historians. Lee Moon-sun, chairman of KABH, said of the reason for selecting Chairman Cho Hong-jai as the winner of the entrepreneurship award, "Chairman Choi helped develop industry in Korea, which had virtually no manufacturing industry, and thus laid the foundation for the nation's economic development, and has left lasting achievements in the history of business management in Korea.
The ceremony was attended by political and business leaders, including Kang Shin-ho, chairman of the Federation of Korean Industries; Park Sam-koo, chairman of Kumho Asiana Group; Nam Duk-woo, former Prime Minister, and Lee Hoi-chang, former Chairman of the Grand National Party, as well as Chairman S.R.Cho of Hyosung, and his family, and Hyosung executives.
Meanwhile, a book of anecdotes, entitled "Though Late and Naive", has been published as part of activities to commemorate the centennial of Chairman Cho Hong-jai's birth. The book has some 90 anecdotes about late Chairman Cho, which are based on accounts of by current and former Hyosung Group executives, and other acquaintances.
