Senior Advisor Song In-sang has received the "Rotary International Award of Honor." The awards ceremony was held at the Leadership Education and Training Program of Rotary International Zone 9 held in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province on Oct. 20. Senior Advisor Song received the award from Rotary International President Wilfred J. Wilkinson, who was on a visit to Korea. The Rotary International Award of Honor is the highest award of the world's largest civilian volunteer organization, given to individuals for their contributions to friendship and peace within the international community. The awards have, in the past, been presented to many heads of state, including George W. Bush, Mikhail Gorbachev, Bill Clinton, Nelson Mandela and Helmut Kohl.
Rotary International said, "It's very unprecedented to give this award to a Rotary leader. We decided to give this award to Honorary Chairman Song in recognition of his contributions and dedication to Korea, his homeland, and Rotary International, an international volunteer organization, and of his large contributions to promoting world peace and international understanding through the leadership he has shown in the international community."
In his acceptance speech, Advisor Song said, "For nearly four decades, I've felt it rewarding to do volunteer work for other people through Rotary activities. I hope that many more people will fill the world with love through Rotary International in the future."
