Hyosung adopts aseptic filling line for beverages, the first of its kind in Korea

2007.08.13

Hyosung has started operating the OEM-type aseptic filling system for beverages, the first of its kind in Korea. The 320 million bottle-per-year facility built in Gwnahyewon, North Cungcheong, with an investment of 40 billion won, as part of the Company’s new business plan, started operation on September 13.

The aseptic filling system makes it possible to safely and hygienically fill beverages, which are likely to deteriorate in the distribution process, such as mixed teas, cereal drinks and beverages containing milk in PET bottles. This means that the inherent tastes of the beverages can be maintained. For production of teas contained in PET bottles, domestic manufacturers use a filling method that depends on high-temperature heat treatment, while their Japanese counterparts mostly use the aseptic filling system.

The Company has adopted ASEPSYS, which is the brand for beverages contained in PET bottles using the aseptic filling system, the first of its kind as an OEM product. Under the system, the Company will start filling beverages in PET bottles, while the Company’s customer beverage businesses concentrate on distribution and marketing.

It is expected that the operation of the aseptic filling system will help invigorate the domestic beverage market, with the introduction of new products, such as mixed teas and cereal beverages, into the well-being beverage market, which grows at a rate of more than 50 percent annually.

ASPSYS will apply to teas produced by Lotte-Chilsung first, and then to those produced by Dong suh and Coca-Cola.
