Changwon Plant runs 'Junior Engineering Class'

2008.10.14

    - Experiment-focused course, featuring 'mini wind power generators,' earn positive response from participants

Hyosung's Changwon Plant held a "Junior Engineering and Technology Class" for fifth and sixth graders at Naedong Elementary School in the industrial city from October 14 to 24.
The Junior Engineering and Technology Class is conducted as part of the Korea Engineering Academy's programs aimed at cultivating future talents in science and technology. The Changwon Plant has conducted the annual course since 2004, to educate children who will lead Korea's future, in order to increase their interest in science and enhance their scientific ways of thinking.
More than 10 researchers, including senior scientists, from the Heavy Industries Research Center joined a group of faculty, who offered a 90 minute-long class focused on experiments that applied scientific principles for such subjects as "mini wind power generators," and "solar cell boat making," inducing enthusiastic participation by children. Participating students said they had a chance to create motors for solar cell-powered motors, and mini wind power generators, thus understanding related principles and mechanisms. The Changwon Plant plans to continue the operation of the Junior Engineering and Technology Class with diverse scientific themes and subjects in the future.
