Ultra strong PET yarn for industrial use wins Jang Young-shil Award

Hyosung's PET ultra strong yarn for industrial use has won the IR 52 Jang Young-shil Award from the Ministry of Science and Technology. The Company developed the product through its own technology, which is all the more significant because it is the first ultra strong PET yarn product ever developed in the world. The Company started to develop a ultra strong PET yarn for industrial use that is much superior to rivals’ products in terms of physical property, banking on its advanced technology in order to effectively counter price competition with Chinese firms and high quality products from advanced countries. The new product is the results of a 26-month effort for research by the company. The project is highly useful as an intermediate material for various industrial purposes, and is expected to be in high demand as a reinforcement material for rubber and wooden products. The technology was credited for its possible application to other products for similar purposes thanks to progress in yarn production technology, as it has helped upgrade production technology of industrial yarns. The super strong PET yarn boasts an ultra high level of strength that is 10 to 15 percent higher than conventional PET yarns for common industrial uses, an advantage that has not been available in existing yarns. As such, it has far-reaching applications in ropes, fabric-reinforced compound materials, and fiber optic cables. Notably, the product is likely to allow the Company to continue to lead the world market, as it has boosts price competitiveness and high quality.
