    - Company introduces recycled polyester yarn Regen for the first time in Korea, following the recent introduction of recycled nylon yarn.

Hyosung has developed a clothing yarn made from recycled PET bottles or polyester yarns. The company has introduced Regen, a yarn from recycled polyester, following a yarn made from recycled nylon introduced earlier. The achievements come as the company strives to develop environmentally friendly yarns and textiles. Regen is the first yarn made from recycled polyester in Korea. It is produced by washing used PET bottles and polyester textiles, and transforming them into chips, which in turn are spun in the form of clothing yarn.

The development of Regen comes after Hyosung developed MIPEN Regen, a recycled nylon yarn, in November last year. With it’s latest achievement, the company has again demonstrated its technological prowess and outstanding know-how in the field of environmentally friendly textiles. The company will also help reduce the domestic use of petrochemical products by more than 400 tons per year by 2009 through the recycling of polyester textiles and yarns, and PET bottles.

The company has been developing and expanding their product lineup of environmentally friendly products, including “Aerocool Eco,” “Prizma” Notably, Aerocool Eco reduce the production of industrial wastewater by 100,000 tons per year, since they do not require post-processing with chemicals and pigments. Also, Prizma/ which permits low-temperature dying, also reduces the emission of carbon dioxide by more than 60,000 tons per year by cutting energy use.

Cho Bong-kyu, a president of the Polyester Fiber PU, said “We have designated 2008 as the year of environment-friendly marketing, since we believe protecting the environment is an important element to sustaining corporate competitiveness.” He added, “In order for us to promote the importance of environmentally friendly products to consumers, and enhance their preferences for such products, we will step up cooperation with world renowned apparel brands, including Nike, Patagonia and GAP, through joint marketing activities encompassing the joint development of fibers made from recycled materials.

The company exhibited in late January it’s newly developed environmentally products at a string of international trade fairs, including ISPO, the largest sportswear exhibition in Europe, and Colombia Tex in South America. It will stage a joint promotion campaign with Colombia Sports, a renowned outdoor brand, beginning in March.
