A 154 kV Test Intelligent Substation Completed

2007.10.22

The 154 kV Substation of Gochang Test Center, a 154kV test intelligent transformer substation, is a future-oriented test power transformation infrastructure facility -- the first of its kind in the country -- built by a technical team from Hyosung Power & Industrial Systems PG.

The construction of this substation was part of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy's plan to build R&D infrastructure for the electric industry. Hyosung Power & Industrial Systems PG started its construction on a turnkey basis in July 2002. It was completed five years later, built using an R&D process based on Hyosung Power & Industrial Systems PG's research center's power transformer technology and the company's electric department's engineering technology.

Of note is the fact that the intelligent transformer substation is furnished with a main transformer, a comprehensive preventive diagnostic system for a gas cut-off switch and circuit breaker, a station-controller-based operating system, and an automatic diagnostic system for the transformer equipment. It also has an automatic security and anti-fire system and a real-time online remote surveillance system. The substation's electronic transformer and digital relay are linked to the Korea Electric Power Corporation's super high voltage system, for the first time in the history of the country. As such, this new transformer technology is expected to play an important role in helping Hyosung advance into new markets both at home and abroad in the future.

The products developed by Hyosung Power & Industrial Systems PG's research center will be supplied to the Gochang Test Center's substation to meet its various system conditions, contributing to enhancing trust in, and quality of, such products.
