The City of Gumi named Hyosung its Company of the Month for August 2010. On the 2nd, 20-odd guests — including the city’s Vice Mayor, Kim Jae-hong and the Hyosung Gumi Plant director, Lee Du-ha — attended the corporate flag hoisting ceremony in front of the city hall. This latest designation indicates the city’s acknowledgement of the plant’s contribution to the community as a regionally-based facility as well as its continued investment in the Gumi Industrial Complex by expanding its polyester fabric facility. The complex is currently the region’s industrial powerhouse.

On August 19th, Nam Yu-jin, Gumi Mayor, visited the plant, toured around the facility which is providing impetus to the promotion of the regional economy and delivered his message of appreciation and encouragement to the staff and workers there.

Presently, the Gumi Plant is home to some 400 workers producing the textile industry’s flagship items (i.e., polyester, spandex, films). This past March, the facility received the Minister of Environment Award during the World Water Day ceremony hosted by the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs. The award was to acknowledge the plant’s contribution to the area’s excellent water quality and environmental conservation — an achievement that stood out from a number of textile companies operating within the industrial complex. The nomination of the Gumi Plant as the winner of the Company of the Month has led to the facility’s scheduled expansion of a polyester fiber plant by 2011. The facility with annual capacity of 36,000 tons mobilizes 50 billion KRW in investment and will create jobs and revitalize the regional economy.
