- Secures technological edge in electric motor segment
Industrial Machinery PU signed a memorandum of understanding on the domestic development of parts for rolling stock (subway cars) with Seoul Metropolitan Rapid Transit on August 28. SMRT is seeking domestic development and supply of 210 KW-class, 1,100 volt traction motors for subway cars, and has chosen Industrial Machinery PU as the contractor for the project. SMRT has until now been importing traction motors for subway cars from Europe and Japan.
Under the MOU, Industrial Machinery PU will produce and deliver a pilot product by the end of 2009, and install the product in subway cars to conduct reliability and performance tests, before installing them in subway trains operating along the extended section (Onsu-Bupyeong) of Subway Line 7. As Industrial Machinery PU will continue to participate in projects for upgrading aged subway cars, which will be replaced in phases in the coming years, Hyosung has laid the groundwork to secure technological edges and credibility in the railway electric motor sector.
Using this achievement as a turning point, the PU will also be diversifying its product lineups, which have been focused on general industrial electric motors, to encompass products for vehicles, a development that will help the PU expand sales in the future.
